Gym Faux Pas

Rules that should ALWAYS be followed at the gym:

#1 -1 Squirt (Spritz) Rule:  If you absolutely need to spray cologne or perfume on before you come please abide by the 1 squirt rule.  Seriously boys, despite what the commercials say we don't like AXE body spray THAT much.  And the same goes for the girls.  I don't enjoy choking on (or tasting) Chanel No.5 in the middle of set.  If I am going to drop the weights on my toe I would rather it be for a valid reason other than getting a mouthful of poooofume in my mouthy.

#2 - Laundry At LEAST Once A Week Rule: This one is done mostly by guys at my gym, but please CHANGE YOUR GYM CLOTHES!  I understand that many of you may be single & not have a female to keep you in check & wash your clothes appropriately, but wash the gym clothes at least once a week.  And if you can't find a laundry mat in your neighbourhood than change your clothes so the workout you did 3 weeks ago isn't following you around. You may have me some random girl coming up to you at the bar after a few too many drinks and telling you to ask for new gym clothes for Christmas.

#3 - Keep Grunting/Screaming/Singing to Yourself at a Minimum: To the guys that think grunting and screaming while lifting will help them with those 25 lb dumbbells - get over yourself!  Okay, I understand that sometimes a small grunt or sound may come from you while lifting heavy weights, but doing it every single time to get attention doesn't make us think you are "macho."  Yes, it gets our attention & we may look at you, but not in a good way.  You seriously scare us!

And now onto the singing....I don't care if you are playing Britney on your iPod.  No song is THAT good that you need to sing out loud. To the whole gym. While dancing across the gym floor.

#4 - Quit Staring!!!: All the creepy old guys, whose only form of exercise is oggling over the ladies on the cardio equipment, should be put in a glass room to do their cardio. Than everyone can stare at them & make creepy faces.   We really don't appreciate spectators while we are sweating buckets. And no old man should find it that attractive that my once light blue shirt has now turned a nice shade of sweaty all over dark blue.

#5 - New Years Resolutions: Gym memberships should triple in price from December 26th through to February 1st.  I think we all know who we are trying to weed out here.....

As most people's New Years starts with a resolution "To lose weight" or "Work out more" mine becomes "to not be charged with physical assault" on those people.

#6 - Clean Up After Yourself:  Wipe down the machines and benches after you are done using them & put your weights away.  Enough said....

# 7 - Hot Men:  If you look like this....

Or this...

Your monthly membership fees should be waived.  I don't think anyone is going to complain about this rule!

Any gym pet peeves you have? Or rules you think should be implemented?

Little Things Excite Me

I was talking with a friend today who is also on a healthy lifestyle "kick" in order to fight in an amateur MMA match.  We were talking about how it's so funny that the little things excite us now.

Yesterday this came in the mail:

With a side of this:

Seriously I was more giddy than a 12 year old at a Justin Bieber concert.  I couldn't wait to try them out! (And believe me I tried them both out last night!) The cookies & cream one was delicious mixed with ice/water in a blender, pretty much like a DQ Blizzard.

I decided to make a list of small, but funny, things that excite me now a days:

-  Getting a new notebook for my food/workout journal

The more girly the better. Less likely to get it stolen from one of the guys at the gym ;)

- Finding new Mrs. Dash flavors

I love me some Mrs. Dash.  She's one smart lady!

The Fiesta Lime not shown is my ABSOLUTE fave!!!

- EXTRA Dessert Delights

That's all I need to say.....

- THURSDAY'S

What's there not to love about Thursday's?  It's the day that Lululemon comes out with their "This Just In", the day my cleaning lady comes & also my only day off from the gym for the week.

- Costco

Since I live approximately an hour away from the closest Costco, any day I get to shop there is exciting.   Seriously 3 packs of cucumbers for $2.99?!? Almond butter, ground turkey & tilapia in BULK! Best $50 I've ever spent on a membership

I actually think I could go on forever about small things that make me jump up and down in excitement. But I will save me the embarrassment you guys the pain.

Is there anything that is small, funny or kinda dumb that makes you excited?

P.S. Legs day today!! Another thing that makes me :)

Start of My Journey

Hi! I'm Janessa & I finally decided to start a blog to document my journey through my fitness, clean eating, healthy lifestyle & hopefully competing in a figure/bikini competition one day soon!  Even though this post is titled "Start of My Journey,' today is far from the 1st of my heatlhy lifestyle.

I've always been active, played sports and ate fairly well, but I found, that like most people, my body changed once I moved out of my parents home & lived on my own in university.  I worked out religiously while attending university, but still gained a "few" pounds.  After finishing my school I continued to work out and eat properly, but felt like my body didn't show my hard work.

Clean eating and working out became very important to me.  I love any sort of fitness - running, workout classes, lifting weights, boxing, volleyball etc. But in September 2011 I decided to take it to the next level & gave myself a goal to compete in a figure or bikini competition.

I found myself a coach/trainer & started my journey at the beginning of September.  I am 6 weeks into my program & find myself loving it thus far.  Right now my program isn't much different than my workouts or eating plan that I had before, but I find when I have to report my food journal & weight to someone I am less likely to slip.

When I started I weighed in at 128.6 lbs with 21% body fat. (Maybe once I get the guts I will post some before pictures!)  I am loving my program, find the food pretty easy to handle & am noticing some big changes - shoulders/legs. (My 2 favorite body parts on me)  5 weeks later I am down 8.6 lbs, have lost 1.5" in my waist & defintely lost some inches in my bust as well.  (Didn't measure that at the beginning)

I hope you follow me on my journey to completing my goal!  Thanks!
